IV Edición del Curso "Mares y Costas de Andalucía"

Between March 31 and April 4, the fourth edition of the course “Mares y Costas de Andalucía” (Seas and Coasts of Andalusia) was held in Almería, a training initiative promoted by the CEI·MAR Foundation (Campus of International Excellence of the Sea), in which we had the honor of participating.

The course was aimed at doctoral, master's, and final-year undergraduate students enrolled at universities affiliated with the CEI·MAR Plan. Over five days, participants had the opportunity to learn about innovative projects, emerging technologies, and real challenges related to the marine and coastal environment, aquaculture, and the blue economy.

This year's edition was integrated as an activity linked to the Complementary Plan for R&D&I in Marine Sciences of ThinkInAzul Andalucía, whose projects were an active part of the program. The program was structured around the three lines of action that make up the regional plan: 1) Observation and monitoring of the marine and coastal environment, 2) Sustainable, smart, and precision aquaculture, and 3) Blue economy: innovation and opportunities.

As a complement to the training sessions, a scientific poster exhibition was held, featuring diverse research projects representing the three thematic areas: «ESMER4» (PCM_00005, LA1), «BLUE·FUTURE» (PCM_00083, LA2), «SUMAPRO» (PCM_00082, LA2), «GREEN-MARSHES» (PCM_00041, LA2), «RUGULOFEED» (PCM_00081, LA2), «INSECTIVAC» (PCM_00080, LA2), and «Gemelo Digital Isla del Trocadero» (PCM_00036, LA3), among others.



On behalf of the ESMER4 project, Irene Nadal Arizo gave a talk entitled “Sensorization in the marine environment: tools for ocean research and sustainability.” During her presentation, students learned about the operation of the ocean station that monitors water flows exchanged through the Strait of Gibraltar, as well as the treatment of environmental variables such as currents, water temperature and salinity, and exchanged volumes—with special attention to the outflow from the Mediterranean. In addition, the development of the new PLOSEG monitoring platform was presented, specifically designed by GOFIMA researchers to be deposited on the seabed.
